train help venice, florence, cinque terre, rome
Need help with which route to take. we on trains. We fly into venice and fly out of rome. Which route to take:
A) venice to florence, florence to cinque terre, and cinque terre to rome. Or B) should we go venice to cinque terre, cinque terre to florence, florence to rome. Also is first class tickets worth it? what type of train would you recommend taking? Would you recommend booking in advance we will be there the first part of Sept. We are traveling around Italy on our honeymoon. Thanks |
A) is better than B)
From Venice to Florence Eurostar, then InterCity, maybe for Cinque Terre you should commute in La Spezia. Cinque Terre, as you know, is not a town, so that you have to choose which is the small station depending on where you will stay. Have a lovely trip, ciao. Vincenzo |
HI T,
Train schedules, prices and ticket are at www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html You want the Amica fares. I would go with plan A. I go 2 cl if it is less than 4 hrs. ((I)) |
Thanks for the help. I appreciate it. Do you think it is better to be in the cinque terre on the weekend or florence or does it not really matter. What does amicia far stand for?
|
For Florence, the only bad day is Monday when most museums are closed.

Here is a page that explains the Amica fares on Trenitalia:
http://www.trenitalia.com/en/promozi...ffa_amica.html It's really nothing more than a discount. You don't have to be a certain age or nationality, or anything like that to get the discount. You do have to buy the tickets in advance, but only the day before. |
thanks for the great help and the info about amica fares
|
I wouldn't wait until the day before your journey to take advantage of the Amica fares. There are a limited number of Amica fare seats on every train, depending on the day, train and class. I'd buy these tickets after you get to Italy but as soon as you know your travel date(s). If you have to change your ticket, you may have to pay a fare difference if Amica fare seats are not available on the new train. Carefully read the page link that Tuscanlifeedit provided so that you understand what you're buying.
