Train Help - Italy to Switzerland

Any help would be appreciated ---

How do we get from Sestri Levante (Italian Riviera) to Wengen, Switzerland by train?

Is there a direct train from Genova?

Thank you so much for any help.

Schedules are at:

Trip takes about 8 hours.

To reserve a seat on the italian trains:

Dear Andre,

Thanks for responding - I had no idea it would take so long.

The web site you mentioned was quoting 12 - 13 hours time with about 6 connections.

Should we consider flying - and any tips on that regard?

Thanks,

Nancy

Huh???

As mentioned in my first post, there are connections which take about 8 hours...

The best connection take just under 7 hours: departure from Sestri at 14:21, arrival Wengen at 21:14. 4 changes at Milano, Spiez, Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen. Runs every day.

Check the site again, plug in an early departure time and click for later connections till you see something you like.

This link takes you right to the main timetable query page:
http://www.rail.ch/pv/index_e.htm

I would recommend reserving a seat for the journey from Milano to Spiez - this should be possible on www.trenitalia.com, otherwise when you arrive in Italy.

No, flying doesn't make any sense. It's always an arduous journey to Wengen as you need to change at least twice: in Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen.

It's a beautiful area though - enjoy!

Oops!

That should have been:

"I would recommend reserving a seat for the journey from SESTRI LEVANTE (not Milano) to Spiez..."
