train from venice to cinque terre
 

We will be landing in venice and would like to go to cinque terre as well as lake como. Is it better to do the riviera first and follow it with the lakes? And if so what is the best way to get from one city to the next?

Where do you depart Italy? The rails are your best bet, and the sequence is moot--unless you depart Milan. Go to the rail site at trenitalia.com for times and schedules. Use Monterosso al Mare as your CT input.

thanks for getting back to me bob. we come into venice and then leave from milan. does that change your opinion?

I think I would end at the Lakes--especially if your takeoff time allows you to stay your last nite there.
