Train from Siena to Rome

Hi,
Thanks to everyone for all your help so far. We're now scheduling the middle of the trip. After 4 nights in Siena, we're going to Rome. I've looked at train schedules, and unless I'm reading them incorrectly, it looks as if the only trains are in the afternoon. Has anyone made that trip and can give advice?

Thanks!

There are trains Siena to Rome, with a connection in Florence or Chiusi all day long starting at about 6am, with additional train choices about twice an hour all day.

That's really not the best way to get from Siena to Rome though since it'll take you close to 3.5 - 4hrs total travel time and you need to make a connection.

The better way is bus directly from Siena to Rome; http://www.sena.it/index_e.htm?CID=A...DIAATM00265902 for 5€. 3hr trip, no changes required.

I feel the bus is your best choice. It's direct, air conditioned, cheaper than the train, leaves right from the town center (Piazza Gramsci) and delivers you to the Tiburtina station in Rome in 3 hours. You can take a taxi from Tirburtina to your hotel.

Thank you! I never would have thought about the bus. I'll check it out asap. I'm about to start looking for a hotel in Siena, something close enough to wander around for dinner, a glass of wine......any ideas?

What's your budget?

ah, the ever-changing budget. we're trying to 'keep it down' whatever that means. We're paying 150 euros per night in Venice, but we did get a discount. We'd like to keep it under 200 euros if possible.

This b&b is very central and a wonderful place to stay. Try to get a room with a sky light.
