How did you make the train connection from Rome to Positano? Any great restaurants in Either?Thanks

Positano is not served by a train line. To go there by public transportation you have a few options: <BR> <BR>a) FS train to Naples + Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento + SITA bus to Positano <BR> <BR>b) FS train to Naples + hydrofoil to Positano <BR> <BR>c) FS train to Salerno + either a SITA bus (with a change in Amalfi) or a boat to Positano. <BR> <BR>Paulo

Takes just under 2 hours --- suggest you leave on the ES departing Rome @ 8:45 am. Betsy, things regarding water transportation in Naples are a bit complicated. On line info is somewhat outdated and inconsistent. As you may know, there are two docks from where boats leave: Beverello (in the city center, close to the Maritime station) and Mergellina, to the southwest. These are about 3km appart. There are also two main train stations (appart from Campi Flegrei): Centrale (with three levels, in Piazza Garibaldi, from where the Circumvesuviana train leaves) and Mergellina, in piazza Piedigrotta, close to the Mergellina dock). There's a metro connecting the two train stations. So, if you're going to Beverello, a taxi from Stazione Centrale would do (about 2km). If you're going to Mergellina and your train from Rome doesn't stop there (some do, e.g., the 1:10pm Eurostar) you may take the metro. <BR> <BR>According to the site below (outdated) <BR>http://www.ondaverde.it/orari_traghetti.htm <BR>there should be hydrofoils leaving Mergellina at 7:00, 9:30, 11:30, 16:20 and 18:20 with trip taking 45 minutes and fares at Lit 30,000. <BR> <BR>What appears to be up to date are the following sites: <BR>http://www.alilauro.it/napbevsorrento.htm <BR>http://salerno.microsys.it/info/navibus.asp <BR> <BR>There are departures from Naples Beverello docks to Sorrento at 9:00, 11:00, 13:05, 15:05, 17:15, 18:30 and 19:30.
