Train from Rome to Florence

We will be arriving in Rome at Fiumincino Airport on a Friday morning. We immediately want to take a train to Florence. Where do we go? Do we need to make reservations for the train to Florence? I'm worried that our flight may not be on time and then we'll miss our train.

Hi, be sure to take a fast train otherwise it's a three hour trip stopping in every little town along the way. I think they're called FS trains, although my memory may be mistaken. Check the website as they should carry the arrival times along with the departer times, and simple arithmetic will find the fastest train. Have a great trip!

the fast trains are ES eurostar. thay are the ones that take 1 1/2 hours, not 3.

Someone advised me about my first train travel in Ialy and this is what I did. Print up the train schedules for the airport(Fiumincino-Termini) and print the schedule for Roma to Firenze. Follow the signs in the Rome airport to the trains. Buy your TICKETS AT THE AIRPORT. There is a window at the airport train stop that will sell you both tickets, will tell you the number of the train you are to take and the times. When I purchased my tickets, she gave me two choices in case we did not arrive at the Termini in time for the firt train. When you arrive at the Termini, locate the track that the train for Firenze departs from. There's alarge board with this information posted. It is in Italian but is not difficult to understand. It is really simple. We did this in August with no reservations. The tickets from termini to airport and Rome to Florence are about $38 US if you take the Eurostar. That is second class and very comfortable. We arrrived at 8:45 a.m.with only carry on (so no waiting for baggage) and we arrived in Florence at 13:00. You can e-mail me if you like.
