The train is the way to do these trips. Make yourself acquainted with the train planner of the Italian railways (www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en), remembering you have to use the Italian originals for the place names. For the longer trips (Rome-Siena, Siena-Bologna) advance buying of your tickets gives considerable discount. This can be done at this same website from 90 days before departure. These tickets are tied to a specific train.

The Parma, Bologna, Ravenna bit is absolutley train,

However getting to Siena from Rome and from Siena to Parma can be done by train but might well be better by bus, just because Siena's train line comes in from the North. Certainly if you were adding Florence to your combo then train all the way.

Have a look at Rome2Rio to get a rough idea what I'm talking about and check where to pick up the bus, it may not be suitable from where you are staying.

Some people are going to tell you that getting to Siena by bus is "better" because the train station is basically outside the walls and down the hill and you have to get a local bus or taxi from the train station into town.
