Train from Paris to Vienna
Need to travel from Paris to Vienna in Oct. Wondering both how simple and or how expensive this would be.
|
It's very simple but will take a long time - about 11 to 12 hours. It's better to fly. To get pricing look on sncf.com for tickets about 90 days ahead of today to find discount pricing.

Thank you both very much, love the man in seat 61 site.

You could take an overnight train to Munich then change trains in the morning to Vienna - www.voyages-sncf.com for discounted fares to Munich and www.bahn.de/en for those to Vienna. Besides the excellent www.seat61.com site check out these other two info-laden sites: www.ricksteves.com and www.budgeteuropetravel.com.
Unless you can get some of the deep discounted tickets full fare will be dauntingly expensive - flying would be cheaper - but if you factor in cost savings of a night in a hotel maybe not. |
www.capiatinetrain.com has the same fares as www.voyage-sncf.com and supposedly is a lot easier for Americans to actually get to work. (For trains Paris to Germany)
|
You can actually book the entire trip using the Germanrail site. You simply do it in two separate segments: Paris-Munich (which, btw, I just booked for July using the Bahn.de site) and then Munich-Vienna and you can print the tickets at home, too.

what did you end up paying dukey? Curious and how long before your trip did you book?
