Train from Paris to Florence - that expensive??
The eurail site said it was $229 per person 1st class from Paris to Florence. The SNCF site quoted me $300 for 1st class - are the tickest really this expensive or am I doing something wrong?

Is this one-way, with a couchette, or private sleeper or what? I plugged in a random date for 1st class, overnight in a couchette and came up with 121 euro one way.

$200-300 per person first class wouldn't surprise me at all. That is a very long distance.

What is the web address for site you were able to get prices for? I went to eurail.com & they only had a link to buy from a local agent. Thanks!

Anna,

I also get a price of $229 for 1st class. Another option to think about is 2nd class at only $147. There maybe other discounts as well, it just takes a little digging to find them. Happy travels.

Greg
Last year my husband and I had a Eurail Selectsaver pass that could be used for any 5 days within 2 months in any three adjoining countries in Europe. The pass cost $280 each. We used it to go from Paris to the Cinque Terre and other longish train trips in Italy and then used it to go from Venice to Munich and back to Paris (our trip was for five weeks).

If you are planning to take additional train trips in Europe, you might want to look into this. After MUCH research, I found the brochure from AAA to be the clearest in terms on what passes are available. Also, you can type your planned journey into www.railsaver.com to determine whether buying a pass is less expensive than point-to-point tickets.
