Train from Paris to Bayonne

My wife and I are planning to travel from Paris to San Sebastian Spain on September 16 by taking the train from Paris to Bayonne and then bus to San Sebastian. How much in advance, if at all, do we need to purchase our Paris-Bayonne tickets? Thank you

Alan, I'm just beginning to sort out our trip. Basically we are flying into Paris and staying for 3 nights, then on to San Sebastian Spain for 2 nights and then on to the Camino in Spain, but if you raise your questions about Paris on this site there are many experienced Paris travellers. Good luck

You've already missed the chance to get really discounted tickets, but go to www.sncf.com and see what fares you can find.

Consider Hendaye which has a commuter train just outside the main station that goes to San Sebastian.

How much in advance, if at all, do we need to purchase our Paris-Bayonne tickets?> Can always show up and nab tickets but as St Cirq says you may find discounted (and restricted to a single train) tickets at www.voyages-sncf.com or www.idTGV.com.

You could also take the train to Hendaye, last station in France and then take the nifty IME Tren Eskro from Hendaye station to downtown San Sebastian (Donostia as locals often call it).

For lots of great info on French trains I always spotlight these IMO fantastic sites - www.seat61.com; www.ricksteves.com and www.budgeteuropetravel.com.
