Train from Oslo to Bergen
Hello -
I have been reading all the advise on the Norway in a Nutshell trip.
I have one question... Would the train ride between Oslo & Bergen be considered a `must see'?
We are looking at flying into Bergen & then flying from Bergen to Stockholm. But, if the train ride between these two cities is wonderful, then we could take the train to Oslo & then catch a plane to Stockholm from there.
Any opinions would be very appreciated.

I don't know that I would say that the train ride is a "must" but if I had an opportunity I would do it [again]. I does a great job of helping you understand the sparness of population, the bleakness of some of the terrain, and perhaps a bit of the Norwegian character. By chance I sat next to a retired and elderly Norwegian Army vet and he related the tales of going into the rather forbidding area both as a child and in the army. The connection to the airport train in Soslo is about 50 fet away so if if it fits, I'd do it

The trip from Oslo to Bergen goes in my opinion through one of the most scenic and wild landscapes in Europe. Do not miss it by flying.
I did it a few years ago in August. We went through a a snowstorm (in early August!!!), past mountains with glacial caps draining into lakes, and so on. Unfortunately a big part of views is obstructed by avalanche galleries, but I accept whatever it takes to make the journey safe. I know what an avalanche can do...

Hi, we have two days in Oslo before going to Bergen. Can we buy the train tickets in Oslo or do we have to do it in advance? The trip is in the first week of September. Also, is there a place for luggage on the train? Thanks for your advice.
