Train from Nice to Milan

Hi All,

I am trying to book a train trip online from Nice to Milan in early August (12/8). I know it is still a number of months away but I want to get as much organised as I can.
I was wondering if anyone has made this journey before? becuase I am having trouble booking it at the moment. I have tried trenitalia.com, tgv and rail europe but no one gives me an option. I know it isn't a direct service and I want to break it down but I can't get an answer off them as to which stations I should use to break down the journey. If someone has made this journey before any help would be much appreciated or if someone has another website I could try?

Cheers

Train schedules for most of Europe are on www.bahn.de.
From Nice, you need to take a local train to Ventimiglia, the first station in Italy. These generally run twice an hour and take about 50 minutes. There are no seat reservations and no need to buy tickets in advance.
From Ventimiglia, Italian trains operate about once an hour to Genova. Some of these are InterCity trains which continue to Milano. There's one, for example, at 1058 which arrives in Milano Centrale at 1455 - you need to check the exact times for the date you're travelling. You should be able to book this through Trenitalia.

The summer schedules for travel after mid-June have not yet been posted on Trenitalia. You can search for similar trains using dates this week to get an idea of schedule and cost.

The 2nd class fare for regional trains from Nice to Ventimiglia is €6.30. There is no discount for booking in advance.

The standard 2nd class fare for direct IC trains from Ventimiglia to Milan is €26.50. If you book in advance (up to 90 days allowed) at trenitalia.com, you can get a Mini fare of €13.00.

So in case it isn't yet clear,

Go to www.trenitalia.com and book from Ventimiglia to Milan looking for a cheap Mini fare, then simply buy a Nice Ventimiglia ticket for a few euros at Nice station

Easy!
