Train from Munich to Milan

Does anyone have any thoughts about traveling from Munich to Milan by train. We have a Eurail Select Pass and wanted to take in some beautiful scenery in the Alps along the way. We are leaving in early October, and were originally going to travel to Chur or St. Moritz, overnight there, then continue on the next morning on the Bernina Express to Tirano. I am wondering if the Bernina Express is worth the extra night in Switzerland, or is the scenery on the Eurocity train almost as good in the Alps?

Munich-Zurich by direct train, connecting train to Chur, then Bernina Express to Tirano, train every 2 hours to Milan.

www.bahn.de for train times Munich-Chur, www.sbb.ch for times Chur-Tirano, www.trenord.it for train times Tirano to Milan.

The Bernina route is fabulous, just do it!

I agree; the scenery over the Bernina route is much more memorable.

Yes indeedy - to me the Bernina Pass Railway is THE most awesomely scenic train ride in Europe, bar none! Though it does take an extra day to get to Milan you will find it well worth it IME - check out a description of "From Switzerland to Milan via the Bernina Express in the superb IMO European Rail & Planning Guide:

The official site of the Bernina Express shows how great that railway is and also the Albula Loops are a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to their, for 1900 or so, prodigious feat of engineering in such terrain - creating a series of loops that go inside and then outside a mountain as the train corkscrews its way up to St Moritz. Some Bernina Express trains I believe start in Davos or Chur and go straight thru to Tirano, Italy.
