Train from Munchen to Venice
 

<BR>Message: We have to choose between a train journey from Munchen to Venice during the day, or to use this as an overnight opportunity. Is the scenery worth the day time or should we spend an extra 10 hours in Munchen and take the overnight train to Venice? PLEASE HELP <BR> <BR> <BR>

I've taken this exact route several times (most recently this Fall) and always did it overnight. I think its a better choice to save the time for *being in* Venice than for getting there. Coming out of that Venice train station into the magical city early in the morning is so divine. <BR>

We made this trip in the other direction, leaving Venice in the early afternoon and arriving in Munich about 9 pm. The scenery in late October was definitely worth it. The full moon shining over the Dolomites was outstandingly beautiful. Do a search by putting "train and Munich to Venice" into the search function; there's at least one thread on this subject.

I haven't looked it up, but from memory the train trip from Munich to Venice is approximately 8 hours, and there are one or two direct trains per day - with others you change at either Innsbruck, Verona or both.<BR>Scenically the journey is pleasant most of the way, but the 2 hour stretch beteen Innsbruck and Bolzano is absolutely magnificient, and is really in the not be missed category. How you achieve this section in daylight might be difficult with your current plans, but definitely worth a try.<BR>Incidentally, I don't know how long you will be in Munich, but you should also try and spend at least an evening and night in Verona en route, as Verona is a much nicer stopover than an extra night in Munich, and puts you less than 2 hours from Venice next morning.
