SALZBURG: We stayed in the BRISTOL HOTEL in Salzburg in 2007. It was very nice and reasonably priced. You can easily walk to the Old Town area from the Bristol. Mozart's home is across the street. His birthplace is in the Old Town.

Salzburg is one of our favorite spots in Europe. You are also close to BERCHTESGADEN so try to make it there also.

Thanks for Bristol Hotel looks beautiful but booked out unfortunately.
I can now search around the Hotel area. Could you also advise me with which way to travel from Hamburg to Salzburg on the Sunday.
The train would be 6hrs and pleasant or I could stay overnite in a town midroute. Flying would leave me more time in Salzburg.

If you don't have to go to Salzburg, it's a lovely city but there are closer places. It will be winter but my first trip to Germany was in the winter and it was lovely.

If cost is an issue, take the train. Buy your tickets 90 days in advance and you can get cheap Sparpreis tickets.

It's going to be winter so if you're not used to driving in snow, there may be lots of it, then why not stay in the state that you've landed in.

Let me start by asking, why Salzburg? What do you think of seeing there? Castles?

Do you like Museums? Art? History?
