Train from Messina

My family and I will be travelling to Sicily by cruise ship for one day. We will port in Messina. Is there quick access to a train from the port? I would like to take them to Taromina. Thank you

There ae frequent trains (about every 45-60 minutes)from Messina Central station to Taromina, takes about 45-55 minutes. But I am afraid I don't the distance from the port to station.

For train timetable, please check: www.trenitalia.it.

From Viamichelin.com, Central station is very close to the port, probably less than 500 meter. There is another train station next to port for ferry train.

From Central Station, SAIS bus goes to Taromina also.

There are two train stations, Messina Maritimma (I think I've spelt that right) and Messina Centrale however they are actually adjacent to each other. Messina Maritimma is at the port and if you walk down the platform for about five minutes you arrive at Messina Centrale for the trains onward.
Actually, it is probably better to walk outside the station but there is really no difficulty or distance involved.
I didn't realise this at first and was asking about changing at Messina Centrale for the port station and they just laughed a bit at me and pointed to the other station!
If you are arriving at the port, the train is by far the quickest way and best to get the train from the central station as the trains at the port tend to hang around for a long time as they are getting onto and off from the trains.

Thank you all so much! I would much rather take the train then pay for an excursion and go on a bus.
