Train from Malpensa to Venezia S. Lucia

Greetings we are flying into Malpensa and plan on taking the train to Venezia S. Lucia

We have reviewed Trenitalia and it appears that trains leave frequently throughout the day. If our flight is on time we will arrive at 8:30am Sunday morning

There haven't been many recent posts on this topic and we are interested if anyone has done this recently and how it went? We don't speak Italian does anyone know if the ticket machines are also in English?

Cheers

Yes, the ticket machines have an English option. From Malpensa Airport, you will need to travel by train or bus to Milano Centrale trains station. From there, you can catch a train to Venezia Santa Lucia.

If you take a train from Malpensa to Milan Centrale, it will be an R train and you will need to validate your tickets before boarding. You will probably take a fast AV train from Milan to Venice, those tickets will have assigned seats and will be checked on board.

Scroll down for screen by screen instructions on using the ticket machines. A few things are outdated. The discounts have changed. There are no longer mini fares. Your choices will be base (regular full fare), economy (if still available), super economy (if still available).

2nd class on the fast train will look like this:

Thanks for the replies. kyboubon I wish I had read roninrome's web site years ago. Certainly answers a lot of questions we had in previous visits to Europe.

When purchasing tickets can we get a single ticket for the entire journey or will we need to purchase tickets for each leg?

All of the discounted fares show as sold out on Trenitalia's web site

We booked Venice to Malpensa for May and because it was a saturday there is a 2 for 1 price deal offered. Worth a try?

Two different tickets since the two parts of the trip are on two different types of trains.

It's a risk purchasing tickets when arriving on a flight. Your plane could be delayed, luggage misplaced, etc.

There is no point in buying the R ticket online in advance. They don't sell out and there are no discounts (currently) for R trains. No reserved seating. R tickets purchased online have more restrictions than R tickets purchased at the station.

>>>saturday there is a 2 for 1 price deal offered. <<<

That is a Saturday only special good until June.

Greetings and thanks to all for the replies

We should be all set now.

Our only concern now is that the ATC issues here in the USA don't buggar up our departure for Italy:)

Cheers
