Train from Malmo to Gothenburg
 

My partner and I are planning a trip to Sweden next year and are visiting friends in Malmo then want to catch the train up to Gothenburg. We will have suitcases as well as our 18 month old son in a possibly a stroller. Would love any advice on ALL of this as I have no idea where to start!

There are hourly Orseund Link trains, no reservation necessary, turn up, buy a ticket, hop on. Luggage and pushchair no problem, just take them as on any European train.

There are also one or two SJ2000 fast trains, which do require a reservation, more expensive on the day, but with cheaper fares if pre-booked, and more comfortable trains as designed for high-speed long distance.

Everything is safe and easy in Scandinavia.

Physically safe, sure.

There is a very slight risk of being targeted by pickpockets, but a bit of caution should prevent that.

anyegr: Is this your personal experience? Where are the pickpockets? I go to Sweden every 6 weeks for so for years and lived there for 14 months and exercised no particular caution, so where are they in case I get pickpocketed. Should I wear a money belt? I'm really worried now about my trip next week to Gothenburg. Will I be safe at the airport or is it just trains that are at risk?

Odin: It's not personal experience. But there are pickpockets in many places and confused tourists are easy targets. There are some articles easily found by googling, both in English and Swedish.

If I was going to a big and crowded event in Gothenburg I'd wear a moneybelt and only access it in a locked toilet stall. If I was only going shopping on an ordinary day I wouldn't bother.

Maybe I'm being overly cautious. I've certainly been told that before.
