Hi Ahpen,
The hotels most often recommended on this board are the Hotel La Résidence (http://www.hotel-la-residence.com/) and Hotel des Artistes (http://www.hoteldesartistes.fr/), both of which are slightly under your budget but are nice, well located hotels.

A bit more upscale is the Grand Hotel des Terreaux (http://www.grand-hotel-terreaux-lyon.federal-hotel.com/).

You might also consider staying at the Citadines Apart-hotel, which has nice serviced studios and apartments, and is really well located and very comfortable. (http://tinyurl.com/zx42q)

I suppose the willingness to risk losing a non-refundable ticket, however remote, is related to your wealth. MorganB's plan of a tie in SNCF ticket and air ticket is the perfect solution it seems.

Another vote for the Hotel des Artists; nice hotel, great location.

I'd spend the previous night in Paris, rather than an airport hotel, and allow plenty of time to get to the airport. After all, there are multiple ways to get to CDG from Paris: taxi, Roissy bus, RER, shuttle. It's unlikely that all will be affected (though not impossible). But relying on the train only over a far distance. That's too big a gamble for me.

No, it's not. If you read The Millionaire Next Door (ISBN 0671015206), you find that people who have more money than most are not profligate in their spending. I believe this is one of the reasons they're rich in the first place.

If anyone wishes to apply this principle to airport transfers (taxi v train), I believe it would be appropriate.
