Train from Germany to Netherlands

Hi all. I'm from Singapore and intend to travel to Nuremberg in April. I was thinking of then travelling by train from Nuremberg to either Helmond/Amsterdam in Netherlands. is there such a train service, and if so, how much will it cost me in Euros? Thanks in advance for your help!

Jonathan,

Here's a link to the German rail service website which will provide the info you need. It's in English & is very easy to use.

Thanks, Jim! Would I have to book a ticket in advance or can I just purchase it at the train station in Nuremberg?

You should be able to purchase the ticket after arrival. You probably won't need to make a seat reservation..just get on the train(s) and sit in any unreserved seat..there should be plenty of them.

Jonathan, can't help you with the trains, but why on earth would you want to go to Helmond? (unless you have friends there I suppose)

Hi Tulips. I'm glad you asked me. I was just going to post a question in the forum on what are the sights in Helmond, and what can I do there over the weekend? The reason I'm going is because I have meetings with some companies there the following week. Would I be better off staying in Amsterdam over the weekend?

Jonathan, Helmond is not very interesting, and not very pretty either. I haven't been there in years, but have relatives who live there.
If you're interested in architecture, there is a theatre build out of cubes that is interesting, as well as some homes build in the same way. I really cannot think of anywhere else you would want to visit. It's quite a rural area.
There's a good restaurant called De Hoefslag. It changed owners recently, but I hear it's still good. It's in the Warande park. Very pleasant for lunch or dinner.
Honestly, I think you would be better off staying in Amsterdam. It's not that far by train.

Thanks, Tulips! How far is Amsterdam by train?

Tulips Mar 4th, 2005 01:02 AM

You'll have to check the timetables, but I guess about 1 1/2 hours.
Den Bosch is also a lovely town, if you don't want to go too far from Helmond.

Jonathan -

Amsterdam is 1 hour 45 minutes from Helmond, with a change in Eindhoven. Here's a link to your other post about Helmond/Amsterdam with some more info (or you can click on your screen name to find the post).
