Train from Frankfurt with Mobility Scooter
We'll be traveling from the Frankfurt Airport to Wurzburg by train. I can walk, just not well, so I will have my mobility scooter with me. I can find info about train travel with a wheelchair, but not with a scooter. I can fold the scooter up and carry it, so I'm thinking it's kind of like traveling with a bike.
Will I need to make any kind of special arrangements or make sure the train I want to travel on has room for it? Will we (husband and I) have enough time to get me, the scooter, and some luggage all on the train? And since I don't want to buy tickets in advance in case the plane is late, is there any way to avoid paying standard fare? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer! |
This would be good starting point for your research:

Thanks, Cowboy, I have looked at that site. It deals almost exclusively with wheelchair passengers, and I don't quite fall into that category. I did get far enough into their (German)handbook on "orthopedic devices" to see that "Electro-Scooters" are included in that category.

P.S.
I assume that you will prefer direct trains from FRA to Würzburg. Which will be long-distance / ICE trains. Most ways to work around the restricted saver fares involve taking regional trains and a transfer at Frankfurt main station. Which you probably don't wish to go through. The standard fare is just €36, though. You can print at home the ticket for your arrival day in FRA, and use it on any ICE train which comes next. No reservations mandatory. |
Thanks for the train ticket info -- I'm glad to know I can do that.
