TRAIN FROM FLORENCE TO VENICE

Could you suggest a route to Venice from Florence? We just want to go for the day.

Take the train and go! What's your question?

Hi Nling,

I recommend against a daytrip. You will be jammed in with a trillion other people and will not appreciate the city.

Make it an overnight trip. You will have the mornings, the late afternoons and the night to really get to know the magic of Venice.

Of course, you are right, Ira. I just don't understand the purpose of the question.

Hi Howard,

Assume that Nling wasn't fully awake at 8:06.

One problem with doing Venice as a daytrip from Florence is the travel time. It's a 3 hr train ride between the cities (or to be precise, it's 2 hrs, 49 minutes on the Eurostar). Of course people do it. You can check train schedules on Trenitalia - www.trenitalia.com/en

Appears the earliest train leaves at 6:45 am --- be aware this train departs from the Firenze Campo De Marte station and arrives at Venice (Venice Santa Lucia station) at 10:14 am. The first Eurostar of the day is a 8:38 am departure (this train as well as most others leaves from main station in Florence) -- arrives into Venice at 11:27 am.

We have done a day trip many times with two small kids from FL to Venice. We like to go for lunch at Madonna for seafood. Better a day trip than not a all. If you can though spend more time. It is worth it.

I took the train from Florence to Venice last March and although Venice was wonderful to see during Carnival, I was only able to enjoy it for 6 hours. It was a very long trip, 3 hours each way. We took the train around 9 am and by the time we made it to St. Mark's square, it was around 1 pm and left around 7 pm. As much as I enjoyed the time there, I wouldn't recommend making the long trip again. Instead, I would make it an over night trip but that's just me.
