train from Florence to Coppenhagen or Ebeltoft
Hi everybody! So I'm going to Italy and was thinking of visiting a friend who lives in Ebeltoft, Denmark. Can I take the train there? How much would it cost? Is it a good scenery?
Would you guys recommend taking the train or taking a plane? |
An epic trip!
There are 101 permutations of route, train, day or sleeper, and potential stopovers. But here's one: 1) Florence depart 22:12 by City Night Line sleeper arriving Munich 06:30. Book at www.bahn.de/en fares from €59 with couchette, deluxe sleepers also available. Breakfast at the Mongdratzerl restaurant inside Munich Hauptbahnhof. See www.seat61.com/citynightline.htm for photos. 2) Munich to Aarhus from €39 booked at www.bahn.de/en, a train leaves Munich at 09:05, change at Hamburg, Flensburg & Fredericia to reach Aarhus (nearest major station to Ebeltoft, I think) 22:12. Booking opens 92 days ahead, the fares vary like air fares depending on popularity of that date and how far in advance you book. Or: 1) Florence (07:50) to Verona (09:20) by morning train from €19 www.trenitalia.com. Brunch in Verona. 2) Verona (11:00) to Hamburg (22:53) with 1 change at Munich from €39 www.bahn.de/en . This takes you via the scenic Brenner Pass route into Austria, see video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uucEm3op7uc . Restaurant car available! 3) Stay overnight Hamburg, train to Aarhus from €39 next morning. |
Forgot this good one, very scenic through the Swiss Alps:
1) Florence (09:00) to Milan (10:40) from €19 2) Milan (11:25) to Basel (15:29) from €22 - lovely run through the Alps. You can book Florence to Zurich in one go at www.italiarail.com 3) Basel (18:26) to Copenhagen (10:08) from €59 with couchette by City Night Line sleeper train, deluxe sleepers also available, book at www.bahn.de/en looking for direct CNL train with 0 changes, and print your own ticket. |
You could also travel from Milan to Paris by direct overnight train, then Paris to Amsterdam by direct train, then Amsterdam to Copenhagen by direct overnight train. It's a more roundabout route, but three direct trains and an excuse to see Paris and Amsterdam.
However, seat61 and I are crazy. Any sensible person would fly. |
Wow these all seem like fantastic options! I think I'll have to visit her multiple times to ensure I travel each route! Thanks guys
