Train from Dusseldorf to Munster
 

Hi there-- does anyone know the best place )in English) on the web to check the train schedule from the Dusseldorf airport to the town of Munster?

Go tp www.bahn.de. Where it says in the left upper corner "Suchen", type Emglish, and you get their whole English language menu for time tables, etc.

There are frequent trains, and they take between 1:20hrs and 1:54 hrs.

Am I doing something wrong-- I did that, typed from Dusseldorf Flughafen to Munster-- it gave me a bunch of choices in Munster and I chose Oertze. The trains they are showing me have a 4.5 hours duration-- I did think it was under 2 hours (as you estimated)-- am I looking at the right trains? Or do I have the station in Munster wrong? Thanks!

try typing in Muenster. Should give you Muenster(West)Hpbf, which is, I believe, Muenster's main train station. There is a direct training leaving from Dusseldorf airport at 12:16 pm, for example, that only takes one hours and 12 minutes to get to Muenster.

You've found a basic flaw of the advice you get here. ;-) People havn't got the slightest idea of "umlauts" and that ü,u ö,o ä,a are TOTALLY different letters in the alphabet and must not be confused if you want to be able to find your way you need to get these things right.
Fussen is not Füssen and
Munster is not Münster.

Why don't you try Münster OR Muenster?

And yes, as you might have guessed Dusseldorf ("Stupid Village" translated into English) is not Düsseldorf (Duesseldorf) ;-)

logos, I've done that search several times. By typing in Dusseldorf (no umlauts or e after u) you get the airport; type in Muenster (again no umlauts) and you get the destination and options Penny seems to be looking for. So what flaw did I make?

When you get to Muenster, be sure to see the anabaptist cages on the top of the cathedral. At one time, during the period of religious upheaval, the anabaptists took over Muenster. What happened to them was not nice.

Dusseldorf means "Stupid village" and isn't actually the place you're looking for. It's PURE coincidence the DB database shows Duesseldorf Airport", since there is no place called "Dusseldorf". That's the problem with the search. Like any spelling error, a few are corrected if the database can anticipate such errors, but you can never rely on that.

With all that, I'm not sure that pennycharlotte has gotten the answer she needs.

Is it the town of Muenster (Münster) in Westfalen that you need? And is it the principal train station called Hauptbahnhof, abbreviated Hbf you need?

and for the arrival

Muenster or Münster,

and then confirm that it is Münster(Westf)Hbf you want.

It will yield lots of departures: 08:16, 08:29, 08:40, and on and on - basically two departures each hour throughout the day, more during rush hour.

The trip costs €23 on most trains, some of them come up as €19.70, others at €27, and it takes anywhere from 1:12 hr to 1:46 hr depending on connections.

As a rule, when the "real" spelling has an Umlaut, you can get by with the letter e after the one with the Umlaut - ae is recognized as ä, oe as ö, ue as ü on most websites. But now and then you have to just leave out the e - trial and error will do it for you.
