Train from Dresden to Nueburg DO in July
Hi:
I am wondering if there is a direct hi speed train from Dresden to Neuburg Germany. I am thinking that I have to change trains in Munich or Ingolstat to get to Neuburg/Do. I will have a rail pass but wonder if I need reservations? Thanks for the help. Johanna |
Didn't you do a trip to Neuburg Donau a year ago using cowboy1968's instruction? If you follow the recommendation to use bahn.com, which is also the very first non advertisement entry that google spits out when you search for "germany train", you will find that the best they can offer is a 3 train combination. Are you carrying too much luggage for train changes?

Thanks for the response, Greg. Cowboy 1968's directions
from the Munich airport were so helpful. I probably didn't phrase the question correctly. I had to change trains in Ingolstat and take a regional train to Neuburg (which only runs once an hr). The problem that I had: No elevators or lifts in Ingolstat and I had to go up and down several flights of stairs with luggage and try to make the train that was standing at the station.. Thankfully, a kind person helped me . thought there might way, where I wouldn't have to take the stairs i.e. Augsburg from Dresden, to Neuburg/DO which might have lifts and escalators (have knee problem). I am researching the various train stations to find out or I may omit this part of the trip or get a driver. I haven't been able to see if there are lifts on bahn.com. I appreciate your thoughts. Have you considered a bus? Just a random thought...

It appears that your only option is via Ingolstadt where you catch that short regional train. Local bus connections from Ingolstadt to Neuburg do not appear convenient.
Since it is only 23 KM from Ingolstadt, in your case perhaps the best option is to catch a taxi from the Ingolstadt Hbf |
Thank you Travelforbeer and Woyzeck for your
thoughts. I am looking into taxis or a driver now. I appreciate all of your help. Am reading the book "Europe by Eurail 2013" and may find some more creative ideas. Thanks. |
Good luck johanna.
The thing is that high speed and direct connections are seldom available to smaller villages like Neuburg. Rail access in Germany, as you know, is superb. Nevertheless, smaller locations are typically serviced by local and regional trains. Often, as travelforbeer mentions, for a distance like that (20km) bus service might be a reasonable alternative (but not in this case). I would suggest emailing Deutsche Bahn to request assistance. They have a Mobility Service Centre which is intended to aid travelers with physical constraints and need help boarding or changing trains. Perhaps this would be a help in your case, if someone were able to assist you with your luggage and up the stairs. Check out their link: http://www.bahn.com/i/view/USA/en/se...handicap.shtml DB also has a Taxi hotline: http://www.bahn.com/i/view/USA/en/se...iew/taxi.shtml |
