Train from Cork Airport to Shannon Airport?
I would like to know if it is possible to take a train from Cork Airport to Shannon Airport? I think I see a train from Cork City to Limerick; need to know if the train station is near Cork Airport and what transportation do we need to take from Limerick station to Shannon Airport? Hope this makes since. Truly appreciate everyone's help.

You'll have to take a bus from Cork airport to Cork city. The train station is not near the airport.
It will be more convenient to stick to Bus Éireann, though, with the bus from Cork airport to Cork central bus station, and one direct bus per hour from there to Galway via Shannon Airport. Should cost around € 14 one-way altogether.
Taking the train would require you to make another change in Limerick for the bus to Shannon airport.
You'll find timetables at www.buseireann.ie
Buying tickets in advance will give you a slight discount, but you can as well buy the ticket from the bus driver at Cork airport for the whole trip to Shannon airport.

Cowboy; Thanks for the information. My husband really wants to take a train so I'll look into the bus from Cork Airport to Cork City. Thanks for the heads up on buying in advance for a discount. Becky

There is a train service from Cork to Dublin and you should get off at Limerick Junction and take a train to Limerick and then a bus or taxi to Shannon, about 15 miles away. See www.irishrail.ie for details.

Sandylan, Are you saying there are two separate trains we would have to take get just to Limerick City? One train from Cork to Limerick Junction and then another from Limerick Junction to Limerick City?

That might be what Sandylan's saying - but sometimes it's three trains. It's actually quicker to fly from Cork to London, Birmingham, Manchester or Dublin, then on to Shannon, that it is to get a cab into town from Cork, meander across Southern Ireland by a series of trains, then get a cab to Shannon. If your husband REALLY wanted to get a train, he could probably get one into town and back at the English airport and still save time.

Yes. You always change trains in Limerick Jct when you want to go from Cork to Limerick.
The bus is faster and easier with your itinerary.
Yet, if train is a must:
Take Citylink shuttle bus from Cork airport to train station.
And follow Sandylan's routing from there.
In Limerick, the train station is next to the bus station. You can take the bus to Shannon or a taxi (the latter will probably be quite expensive).
You will need 3 changes to get from Cork airport to Shannon airport.

Does your husband just want to take "a train" for the experience -- and not necessarily this specific journey?
Beacuse there are a lot of other trains one could take w/o schlepping from ORK to Cork to Limerick to Shannon.
