Train from Civitavecchia to Ostia Antica

I'm traveling with a group of 8 total on the Carnival Freedom. The ship stops on its final day in Civitavecchia on Fri., June 29. The group is balking at going to Ostia Antica with ContextRome group as it is the last day and they think they will be tired. It's only a 5 hr. excursion. I'm determined to get to Ostia Antica on my own but I don't want to take the train all the way into Rome and come back to the coast. I checked the trenitalia website but when I put in my data a message comes up "Errore nei criteri di ricerca" (probably: error in the criterion that was received) and then "Nessun soluzione trovata" (probably: no found solution). At one attempt the data box put in Ostia Parmense but that didn't work either. Does anyone know if the train runs from Civitavecchia to Ostia Antica? It's a 45 minute car drive. Maybe I should rent a car?
Thanks. [email protected]

The train to Ostia Antica is a local, metro type train. You need to get to the Ostiense train station. I doubt the train from Civitavecchia goes to Ostiense but you can check. Otherwise, you will need to take the train to Termini, switch to Metro line B going to Ostiense, at Ostiense switch to the local train going to Ostiense/Cristoforo Colombo.

Grinisa, I was just checking and it does stop there.

starwhite, Got ya email :).
Put in Roma Ostiense in trenitalia.com.

The Pyramide station on my directions and the Roma Ostiense train station are connected.
They're connected by a corridor and signposted, a bit of a hike, 300m maybe?

Go to www.romestate.it/fotoimg/MappametroRoma_13.jpg

See in the middle where the blue, purple and black lines intersect.
There you can see the Pyramide and Ostiense stations labeled.

The green line leaving there (heading to the 7 o'clock position) is the train to Ostia Antica and that stop is marked.

The Black Line coming it at 9 o'clock labeled FM5 is shown on my Rome map as the train line to Civitavecchia. Regards, Walter

Walter -- that map is excellent. The funny thing is that Fiumicino Aeroporto is right there and I'll be heading back there at 8 a.m. the next day to take my flight!! How wild is that? Star

My group decided to use ContextRome for the excursion to Ostia Antica. But thanks anyway for the train tips. Star

Star - you won't be disappointed. We did a tour of Ostia Antica with ContextRome and thoroughly enjoyed it. We really like Ostia Antica. It wasn't crowded and we liked wondering among all the excavations. However, without a guide the first time, I don't think we would have gotten as much out of the trip.
