Train from CDG in Paris
 

Hi! We are traveling to Paris for the first time later this month. I'm interested in taking the RER into the city from the airport. We will hopefully only have carry-on luggage! Our hotel is in Bercy Village and the closest metro stop is Cour St. Emilion. Is this doable? Easy? What station would we take the RER to in order to make the transfer to the Metro? THANK YOU!

RER CDG to Chatelet-Les Halles stop, transfer there to line 14 to Cour St Emilion - should take about an hour - could entail a bit of a walk doing the transfer at the sprawling Chatelet-Les halles station.

I wetn to www.ratp.com, select the english pages, select itinerary, and entered Charles de Gaulle and Court St Emilion in the route planner...

They recommned RER to Chatelet, then Metro Line #14 to your stop. Travel time...~45 minutes.

I've taken the RER to and from CDG four times now, always in June. I definitely get the sense that it's the fastest way into and out of town, but I don't think I'd ever do it again. The trains I've been on weren't air conditioned, and they've been hot. The last time, really, really hot. And extremely crowded for the part of the trip that's in the city.

You could take the Air France bus that drops off at Gare de Lyon, then metro Line 14 to Cour St Emilion (2nd stop)

We did the RER in reverse paris to CDG for our trip home.

took a airport shuttle when we arrived.

If your not on a time schedule and don't have a lot of luggage the RER to chtelet les Halles and then the number 14 is doable.

WE had a one heavy suit case ( mine) and all the steps and hefting the luggage over the turn stiles was a hassel, there wasn't always a wide turnstile availble in the metro stations.The steps in the metro, depending on which metro also could be a lot of lugging with heavy bags :) I assume that is because they were older stations.

Keep in mind when in Bercy the number 6 metro line in under construction, which required getting off and out of the station, then walking two blocks up the street to return to that metro line ( you can use the same ticket). We used this line twice to get to Bercy station and didn't know we could reuse the same ticket because of the construction.

When we go again we will do the RER and the metro, even the the shuttle was really nice. We were just toooo afraid that we would be unable to figure out the whole system when we arrived with lack of sleep and luggage. It really is a wonderfull train and metro system. Easy to figure out.

From Chatelet i recommend getting a RER train to CDG that after Gare du Nord goes nonstop (sans arret) as the stopping train can get very crowded at intermediate stops in the infamous northern suburbs of Paris. Look at overhead signs to see which stations the trains are serving.

A day or two before I left the USA, I booked a ride with the Paris Blue Airport shuttle from CDG airport to my downtown Paris hotel. It cost 25 Euros, and it was worth it to me. It was my first trip to Paris, I was traveling alone, and I was concerned that I might not be sharp after an overnight flight. The shuttle picked me up on-time, and I was pleased with its service. Thank y'all so much for all the helpful information. Our flight gets to CDG at 6:20 am and we're going to try to only have carry-on, so I think we could handle the RER/Metro!

Why not the Air France Bus to Gare de Lyon and the 24 City bus?

We just returned from Paris and took the subway and RER train from the Eiffel Tower area to the airport and it worked fine. We had 1 small suitcase and had to carry it up and down steps occasionally but it worked out fine and we saved euros. We also took the train/subway when we arrived in Rome to our hotel. thought of another helpfull hint for you/ when using the RER train into paris from CDG/ make sure you use the B train as that is to my knowlege the only RER that goes directly into Paris so you can use the metro.

There is only one RER train at CDG so you can't really make a choice. The only thing you could possibly do wrong is go the wrong way by one stop to the other Terminal station. If that happens, just stay on it and then it will start up the return to Paris.

Can anyone provide information about the distance/change in levels needed to transfer at St. Michel-Notre-Dame from the RER B from CDG to the RER C in the direction of Creteil? How easy/difficult is it with a moderate amount of luggage?

Alternatively, is there a better routing from CDG to the Gare d'Austerlitz metro?

The transfer at Châtelet-Les Halles RER station to line 14 is very short (just pay attention to the zillions of directional signs hanging from the ceiling). The trip to Cour Saint Emilion will take just a few minutes. The main hotels there are the Sofitel, the Ibis or the Kyriad. Is your hotel one of those? If it is the Sofitel or the Ibis, I have seen numerous tourists confused about where to go from the metro. It is really quite easy -- you walk into Bercy Village and straight through out to the other side. When you do that, the Ibis is immediately visible, and the Sofitel is just behind it on the right (closer to the UGC multiplex). If you are at the Kyriad, it is in a totally different direction.
