Train from Bergen to Oslo
 

Is it possible to buy Komfort Class tickets from Bergen to Oslo from the U.S.? We are two senior citizens, and we like to have everything lined up before we travel.

Yes but mainly thru RailEurope.com and you will pay a premium but with your desire it will be priceless for peace of mind. I always recommend calling www.budgeteuropetravel.com and talking to Byron as IME he's knowledgeable and gives great personal service - RailEurope agent but i think less a mailing fee on this type of order. Or www.raileurope.com - prices should be the same everywhere but mailing and handling fees can be imposed. I also always recommend Rick Steves www.ricksteves.com but his outfit will not sell point to point tickets or make reservations, just sell passes. Ask about the Norway Railpass if going both ways - could be cheaper than two round trips. There is a night train each way as well.

Thank you for replying. Can we wait and buy a one way Komfort Class ticket at the Bergen Rail. We want to leave on the morning trip so we can see the scenery. We have not gotten good answers from our Travel Agent.

We bought Norway in a Nutshell tix through a friend of mine in Oslo. I'm not sure you can get NIN tix in the states. Your travel agent MUST know about the very popular NIN..but it's pssible he/she doesn't.

we left Oslo at 8:11 am and arrived in Bergen round 6:00 pm...great trip, train, fjord sail, bus to Stalheim with marvelous views, and then connect with the train to Bergen. It can be done in reverse, simliar timing. Suggest you have your agent check it out for you, but you may have to purchse once you get to Bergen.

Tupelo i would say yes you could buy that ticket in Bergen - i would doubt if first class ever sells out - but not sure but that's what i would do.

Not familiar with the official Norwegian Railways site but perhaps you can book on it?

anyway if buying in Bergen it's always helpful to have printed out the train info - train number, etc. to hand the clerk

I am not sure if you want the Norway in a Nutshell tour or just a train ticket from Bergen to Oslo.

We did exactly the same journey last year from Bergen to Oslo also Komfort Class. We booked the tickets approx 3 months before departure and got a special 'minipris' ticket. We paid DKK 274 each which was much much cheaper than buying on the day. The NSB site mentioned above is how we booked (from the UK, but would be the same from US). It's easy to navigate and understand. You have the option to collect the tickets at Bergen station from an automated machine beforehand (which we did) or pick them up on board. So if you know the day you're travelling, it's much cheaper to book in advance.

Old post, but I'll make a remark. The train from Bergen to Oslo has a *first class*, it is called NSB Komfort. All other seats are comfortable as well, and in one category.

You'll get leather seats, coffee and newspapers for free. At NOK 75 that's a bargain, aprox $12. It is a little more space, and if you bring a laptop, they provide for el (socket? my english is not that good). I don't think the space or the seats are that mutch different than the others, but there are usually not to many passangers in this category, and that makes the trip more quiet, a great pluss.

I've been studying in Bergen, but I'm from Oslo, so I've made this trip about 20 times. My advise is to bring some food, the cafe onboard is really bad:)

Or do you mean $12 more than 2nd class

Norwegians fear the term first class:) We're all sosialist and equal, you know, hihi.

So you can't buy a first class ticket. You will have to pay an addition to your regular seat. (Ops ops, not 2.class, as you can imagine: *Regular*)

And, the coffee is NOK 25 a cup, (i think) in the cafe, so if you drink 4 cups on your 7 hour trip in your KOMFORT seats, you actually save money (hihi), and your trip is by far more comfortable.

So - the NOK 75 is in addition to the regular ticket.
