I'm trying to finalize our plans and have been reviewing all of the detailed information I received. One more question - thank you for your patience....If we wanted to go by train from Basel Bad Bf to Fussen - could we do this within a day using the Bayern Tickets. I've been on the Germain Train site and have found various schedules - but I'm still not clear as to how to determine which schedules might be available under the Bayern tickets.....

You have to choose the option "regional transportation only". With this you exclude all trains on which the Länder-Tickets are not valid. The Bayern- and BaWü-Tickets wil not turn up in the pricing column, just ignore it. |
Thank you - your suggestion for "regional transportation only" will most likely help.

Plannerbell,
sorry, I didn't check back the last few days. As far as Basel Bad to Füssen, Basel Bad is in Switzerland, right over the border from Baden-Württemberg. If going to Füssen, you would be passing through the states of Bavaria (Bayern) and Baden-Württemberg. It looks like one of the routes goes from Basel Bad to Singen. That route goes through a little of Switzerland at Schaffhausen, but that leg is included in a Baden-Württemburg-Ticket. From Singen, the trains go along Bodensee to Friedrichshafen to Lindau, which is in Bavaria: 1. If you are going on a weekend, you can use the Schönes-Wochenende-Ticket. It's good all across Germany on regional trains. 2. If you go on a weekday, you will need both a Bayern-Ticket and a Baden-Württemburg-Ticket. As for recognizing regional trains, ICE, IC, & EC are NOT regional trains. Neither is an IR (Interregio); I haven't seen one of these since 2002. Regional trains of the Bahn are RE (Regional Express) and RB (Regional Bahn). There are also some trains running under the privatization policy of the Bahn. These include BOB and ALX. They are all regional trains. So, if it is not an ICE/IC/EC/IR it is a regional train. |
bookmarking - very informative thread.

Larry, you are an encyclopedia. Two of us are also disembarking from Rhine River cruise in Basel on August 8 and plan to do Romantic Road. Should we go to Munich? May be we can join the foursome if the dates are the same. Can we go directly to Fussen for a day and then up to Dinkel..Rothenburg to Frankfurt? We have to leave Frankfurt on 13th. Should I email to you separately?

Hi!
My name is Patrizia and I'm a student at the University of Brighton. I'm currently making a questionnaire about the FIFA World Cup 2006 in Germany and it's impact on Germany's image among foreign tourists. I would be very greatful, if some of you could answer my questionnaire. It will just take 3-5 minutes. The information are anonymous and are solely used for my dissertation. Here is the link: https://www.soscisurvey.de/worldcupger2006 If you have any questions just text me! Thank you very much! :-) Patrizia |
We are a group of 4 adults and 2 kids. We will be visiting Germany and Switzerland in June. I have some queries regarding carrying luggage. We will start from Munich. From Munich we will visit Lindau. From Lindau we will take train to reach Friedrichshafen, then take Ferry to Romanshorn, then again via Bern will reach Interlaken by train. Because of some back pain I can not carry luggage..I want to know about the availability of luggage trolleys, elevators, and escalators at the small railway stations (Lindau, Friedrichshafen). It will be a great help if you can provide me the informations..Thanks..

IME there will be luggage trolleys in such stations - right on the platforms - have requisite euro or franc coins to put in to disengage them - getting your money back when you return it - in Germany - in Switzerland they may be just sitting there. With all that Swiss travel be sure to investigate the Swiss Pass which would cover 50% of the first boat ride - half of the ride is in Switzerland and then just hop on any train anytime.
