Train from Barcelona to Madrid

Hi, I will be in Spain in December, I was wondering, how long is it by train from Barcelona to Madrid?

If you take the AVE, during the day it takes about 3 hours. The night train makes more stops and takes about 8 hours (great sleeping train, though!)

2 hours 38 mins fastest trip. Fares from 49 euro if you pre-book at www.renfe.es

Hi there,

I personally took that train, although from Madrid to Barcelona. I caught it during the day and arrived within about 3 hours.

I have caught many trains around all of Europe and I had no complaints about that one. It was very quick and relatively comfortable and the sandwiches were excellent. I´m not one to normally buy food on the train as it is generally overpriced, but the sandwiches were great.

Anyway, have a safe journey and hopefully you find a good price.

What is the difference between Preferente v. Club?

lincasanova Jul 27th, 2009 04:17 AM

In Club class they will serve your drinks at your seat. In Preferente, you receive a welcome drink, then if you want more I believe you need to go ask for it. Both have meals served at your seat also.

Online the Club seats LOOK a bit larger at the headrest, but it may just be the photo. I don't think there is much difference at all.

hobbitthefoodlover,

Other slight differences between Club and Preferente:

On each train there is just one Club car, with 30 or 45 seats, depending on the train

Meals in Club class are a la carte-you have 2 choices for each course

Unlimited drinks, or "open bar" in Club class

Leather seats in Club

The AVE 103 series has a "Meeting Room" car with 7 leather seats for Club passengers who need to have a business meeting

The seat pitch is the same for both Club and Preferente so your personal space is the same. For me the difference between the two is so slight that it doesn't merit the higher ticket price for Club.

And for a trip of only 2 1/2 hrs. on the Madrid-Seville run, or the non-stop 2 hr. 38 min. Madrid-Barcelona, Turista class is just fine.
