About 4 hrs. Make sure you eat well before the trip, or bring a small lunch or snacks to munch on the train as well because it would be a while before you can get to a restaurant in Amsterdam. They sold some sandwiches as well in the train, but they were expensive and weren't that good.
During our trip last July, we left shortly after breakfast and arrived way past lunch and lived on our potato chips in the train. We didn't even think that we'd get hungry before we hit Amsterdam... boy, were we wrong! We probably got into Amsterdam around 2-3 pm. After checking into the hotel, and going right back out to town, we didn't have our second meal of the day until around 4-5, which was way too late for me personally. The Indonesian meal that we tried were all worth the wait and devastation though
Have a good time.

Hi Deborah,
I took the train from Paris to Amsterdam on 12/29/04 and it was 4 hours with 3 stops. It cost $75 per adult for second class and the children were half fare. There are approximately 10 trains per day that make this trip.
The train was full and all the seats were reserved. I bought the tickets in the US 6 weeks prior to the trip.

Current fares in US:
Smilys $44 each way Amsterdam-Paris each way, mandatory round trip, book 14 days in advance. limited availability. If book in US $15 booking fee from Raileurope - i'd call Budget Europe, who i always go thru, a Raileurope agent who is extremely helpful and knowledgeable! Or online try www.thalys.com for English info. full fare is about $114 2nd class fares i'm quoting. ceapest first class fare is mezzo Plus at $102 each way but you do get a nice meal with booze in 1st class (formerly offered only Mon-Fri, now all days) Reviews of the meal are mixed but mine was great - fancy mousse stuff. If you have kids 4-11 kid goes for $19 (!) Youth under 26 $57 each way. Meal served at seat. these are Raileurope fares. Europe fares valid thru 12/11/04 were kid: 15 euros; smilys 69 euro return; youth 45.50 each way regular fare 90.50 euros each way.
