Train from Amsterdam to Cologne in May

My wife and I want to take a train from Amsterdam to Cologne on May 27th.
Should I buy 2 tickets now, or just wait and buy them at the station on the 27th?
What is the best website to buy the train tickets?
Thank you for your help.

The earlier you buy, they cheaper they will be.

You can buy your ticket from the DB website: http://www.bahn.de/p_en/view/index.shtml

www.bahn.de/en the German Railways website is the best and maybe the only one besides the Dutch Railways - but this is a German train I believe so www.bahn.de/en - and if you book NOW you can nab fares much much cheaper than walking up - muchmuch - but then you are assigned to a specific train on a specific dates at a specific time and cannot change and refunds incur a heft penalty.

But these tickets are sold in limited numbers so book as early as possible - they could be available up until the train practically or they could all be gone by now - check NOW - print your own tickets.

You may consider taking first class as there are discounted tickets in that class too - much more relaxed ride - usually lots of empty seats, bigger seats, etc. For a run-down on European trains and things such as the difference between classes check these superb sites: www.seat61.com (great info on discounted ducats); www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.

the 10:35 am train departing Amsterdam on May 27 still has tickets left for 19 euros p.p. - standard or full fare is 66 euros. Act quick for the 19 euro ducats - here today gone tomorrow often.

http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en?

click on this and you get the schedule and fare page - put in the date you want and time to start searching from - the lower price ticket is a restricted one - 'standard fare' is full fare you can get always it seems on a walk-up basis. Look for trains with "0" changes - seems to go every two hours on this route.

Or use www.nsinternational.nl, who occasionally have special offers on that route.

Certainly buy your tickets asap.

66-38 = 28 x 2 = 56 euros saved over just showing up - early bird doth get the worm! Often however in summer it seems they are often sold out way way in advance!
