Train from airport in Rome to Naples, then to Positano

It looks like trains leave fairly frequently from Rome to Naples after visiting the Trenitalia website. First question is where is the train station in Rome, at the airport? We will be arriving there on a flight from Nice. Second question is once in Naples what is the recommended transportation to Positano our ultimate destination?

Hi rlb,

You take the Leonardo da Vinci express train from FCO to Roma TE - 1/2 hr.

Trains leave on the :07 and :37. Return trains on the ::22 and ::52.

From Naples you can take the Circumvesuviana commuter train, at the lower level of the station, to Sorrento.

You then take the SITA bus across the street from the station to Positano.

You could hire a driver from Naples airport to Positano - about 100E.

Another possibility is to follow the advice in the following posting:

Circumvesuviana website = http://www.vesuviana.it/
SITA website = http://www.sita-on-line.it/
--- once you “entra” SITA, click on “campania” on left side of screen, then “orari” which will pull up various bus routes.

And here's just a few of the many, many threads around the 'how to get to Positano' query.

Just to make clear you take the Leonardo Airport Express from Roma FCO into Roma Termini Station and then change preferably to a Eurostar or Intercity Train from from Roma Termini to Napoli Centrale. From Napoli Centrale you have the choice of a bus or the CV train to Sorrento and then another bus to Positano or alternatively have a car take you to Positano

I take it the Leonardo Airport Express is a bus of some sort that runs from the airport to the train station. Where would we find this bus? I assume it runs from the front of the airport (meaning the pickup/dropoff area). Correct? I believe we will have a driver pick us up in Naples for the remainder of the trip into Positano.

The Leonardo Express is a special train that travels between FCO and Roma Termini. There is a train station at the airport. At this station you can buy the ticket to Rome and at the same time purchase for Naples so you don't have to stand in line again at Termini.

Check the Leonard Express here:
http://www.adr.it/CONTENT.ASP?SUBC=1361&L=3&IDMEN=731

When you arrive in Rome, inside the terminal you'll see the signs for this small train station. You won't even need to go outside because there's some elevators and tapis roulant.
