Train Fees & Hostels in Rome
 

1. I was wondering how much it would cost to take the train from Rome to Florence in June? Does time of day play a factor? And what about 1st class versus 2nd class? If anyone has my answer, that would be great.

2. Does anybody have a an cheap hostel recommendations? We want to be within walking distance of major sites and don't mind noise. Any recommendations for about $20. We found Hostel Beautiful. Does anyone know anything about this hostel or another one?

1. Class of seat on train and speed of train make the cost differential. An IC train makes a few more stops so it takes a bit longer, but costs less. It has first and second class seats. AN ES train makes fewer stops and costs more. It has all-reserved first and second class seats.

In November, our ES second class one-way tickets between Rome and Florence cost about 28 euro and the trip took 1 hour 35 minutes.

Hi Tasha,

Might want to check out this hostel "the Beehive" It's not right in the center, but you can get there easily. This by the train station and I have read great things about it. rooms look like 20 per person dorm room and 35 per person privet room shared bath ect.

I stayed at Hostel Beautiful in October of 2002. It was nice as far as hostels go. There was no curfew and it is near the train station which is convenient. I don't remember it being very close to many major sights though. I do remember walking to the coloseum and it wasn't too much of a trek. I've heard a lot of goods things about the Beehive hostel so you might want to look into staying there also.
