Train directions to Versailles

We are trying to get to Versailles on Tues,13th and back to our apt. before the strike starts at 8pm. would anyone be able to give us directions via the metro/train from Republique station.?
Thanks

Are you considering the RER for a rapid commute to Versailles?? I thought the train took a lot longer.

The train is actually faster as far as the ride from Paris is concerned (Paris-Montparnasse -- Versailles-Chantiers in 12 minutes for the fastest ones, slightly over 15 minutes for the other direct ones). But Versailles-Chantiers is further from the Castle than Versailles-Rives Gauche and Paris-Montparnasse is not convenient from all locations in Paris.

We really dont know what type of train/RER? to Versailles. We know that our apt is near the Republique station.

Line 8 to Invalides, change there for RER Line C towards Versailles-RIVE GAUCHE.

Thanks superheterodyne-
another question-when we get to Versaille--can we walk to the castle or do we take a cab or taxi or bus?

Thanks

You can walk; it takes only about 10 minutes from the station.
