Train between Venice & Milan

How significant is the difference between Ist Class and Second Class on the Frecciabianca between Verona & MIlan?

We are takng the train from Venice to Verona and then from Verona to Milan the followning day. Minis are not available on the Verona to Milan leg so the price difference between 1st & 2nd is substatial.

Is there a way to book both rides together and sve mopney?

Thanks!

Keith

I think 2nd class is just fine or that length of trip.

Traveling on two different trains requires two different tickets.

What are your dates?

Keith Jan 11th, 2012 04:57 AM

The second week in March.

kybourbon Jan 11th, 2012 05:57 AM

I meant exact travel dates because I see lots of mini fares on these routes (9€ Verona/Milan).

Use this Trenitalia link to search. You must enter the Italian spelling for the cities. Verona Porta Nuova and Milano. Click find the best price under the number of adults. If you enter two adults, the price will be for both, not each.

First class seats are 64 cms. in width. They are 3-across. Second class seats are 55.5 cms in width. They are 4-across. The upholstery of first class seats is better. Seats in both classes recline. There are 72 second class seats and 52 first class seats per railcar (because second class is 4-across instead of 3-across).

There are usually two first class railcars and seven second class railcars, per Frecciabianca convoy.

Here is a description of the train (in Italian):

Between Milan and Venice, most travellers don't believe that the difference in price (between first and second class Frecciabianca) is worthwhile, but some travellers feel strongly otherwise.

Scroll down to the Eurostar City/Frecciabianca pictures. This will more likely be your train for Verona/Milan instead of the pic I linked above.

Mini fares for Verona-Milan are available for high-speed trains, but not for regional trains. The standard 2nd class fare for high-speed trains is €19.00 and the Mini fare is €9.00. The anytime 2nd class fare on regional trains is €10.45.

The first 27 seconds of this video shows the interior of a second class Frecciabianca railcar travelling from Venice to Milan. As noted above, first class seats will be wider and plusher:

Did the Freccia 2nd in May it was fine eurostar quality.
Train is short just a zip couple of hours.
sea61.com/italy regional trains WAY cheaper if budget
and not bad have bought like a local from small
machines at station under 10 euro for me inthe past
not too much longer perhaps 30-40 minutes.

'Eurostar City' Frecciabianca services use locomotive-hauled coaches www.seat61.com/Italy-trains

GAC Jan 11th, 2012 05:04 PM

That is correct: the Frecciabianca is nothing more than a "spruced up" Intercity train without separate seating compartments and with a more modern locomotive. They replace the hourly Intercity trains which used to run between Venice and Milan, and shave about 30 minutes from the total trip time. But a Frecciabianca is most definitely NOT a Frecciarossa or a Frecciargento (the Freccias are not all created equal).

March 10 for the Verona/Milan leg, kyburbon. I checked the 3 Frecciabianca departures closest to the time I wanted to travel and the mini was only available in 2nd class.
