Trail Running Options near Grindelwald/Interlaken/Lauterbrunnen?
Hi travelers,
Wondering your best advice for our family: Husband wants to do a few nice trail runs during a 4-5 day stay in or around Grindelwald. He is an avid trail runner and would love something in the 5-10 mile a day range with moderate difficulty. On the flip side, wifey (me) and the teenagers are not runners, and need easy access to either a nearby village to explore while he's running so we're not waiting around in the chalet/condo while he's out. As a family we'll also have a car to explore, hike, etc. We haven't picked accommodations yet and would love your advice of where to make a home base. Wengen? Lauterbrunnen? Grindelwald? Interlaken? Other suggestions? Also, are there running guides or tour companies that will take runners out on guided runs? (There are a few operators like this in Chamonix, but we're not headed there this trip.) Are there good areas that would have a mix of running and hiking trails starting from the same staging/parking area? Thanks! -skatterfly |
Grindelwald will give you and your kids a large enough village to keep you busy and it’s setting it stunning. . It also has great train connections to other locations. Sorry can’t help you with running info.

I can't help with the trail runs (sorry), but FWIW, here are some thoughts on your home base choices:

For trail running there are countless miles of hiking trails in that area. He should look on his favorite run tracking app or hiking app and look for popular routes. Strava, mapmyrun, alltrails, etc. I do the same for hiking or road biking.

As above: the hiking trail network is endless.
...and the family cn easily reach the most scenic points along these trails by bus, cog wheel railway or gondola. |
