Towns to Visit Close To Barcelona

Hi All!

My friend and I will be traveling to Barcelona in June. We have 11 days, 5 of which we will devote to the city, and a day trip to Girona. Does anyone have some suggestions for towns right near Barcelona? Should we spend two days in Girona?

Thanks!

Montserrat, the famous hilltop pilgrimage site a short commuter train ride or drive away

Sitges - famous beach town also nearby.

Figueras but only for the fantastic Dali Museum IMO - about an hour by train or car.

Thanks PalenQ!

Figueres is more than 1 hour from Barcelona! Or do you mean from Girona PQ?

You could explore the beautiful Costa Brava area towns such as Pals, Begur, Figueras, Cadaques, this whole region is wonderful ( accessible from Girona or Barcelona)

We thoroughly enjoyed Tarragona, a bit down the coast. It wouldn't be a great day trip (too much to see) but if you thought of an overnight trip, this is a great destination--on the Mediterranean, Roman ruins, Medieval streets--great!

I agree with Smeagol. If you rent a car your best option would be to extend your trip to Girona up north, visit the Dali museum in Figueres and then drive east to Cadaqués. From that point you could drive south stopping on some of the small towns by the coast: Pals and Begur for sure, and also the beach villages close to Palafrugell (Calella and Llafranc). There are also many interesting villages further inland. Without a car it is not easy to visit the Costa Brava, although there are some bus lines.

Hi all (and thanks), we have six days after we leave Barcelona, would you say (we will have a car) it is more feasible to stay in the Girona area rather than split the time between the Girona area and San Sebastian? I realize these things are sort of subjective, just want to hear your thoughts...
