Towns between Florence Italy and Avignon France
I'd like a suggestion for an overnight stay about half way between Avignon France and Florence Italy. Traveling by car with a 10-year old. Any suggestions?

Nice or Menton if you like smaller cities.
But apparently the roads in Italy take up a lot of time, so stopping in Genoa may actually be more like breaking the trip in 2 comparable travel times.
Nice Avignon is about 2,5 hours... Good highway.
Whilst Firenze Nice is about 4,5 hours.
Anyway, I'd stop in Menton, since I know Nice better - and if you travel end of feb, you'll be in the 'fete du citron'

Nice you are off the autoroute and facing heavy traffic.
Read this about driving in Italy:

As you will see, it is problematic to drive into cities. I suggest San Remo. Consult Via Michelin.

Genoa or Turin. Genoa (Genova) is mysteriously medieval with its small alleys. And it has, of course, a harbour. Turin (Torino) is wide and elegant with some 17 kilometers of arcades streets. Some 10 kilometres to the south-west you'll find the Stupinigi palace, from where you can already see the Alps.
