Town near Pisa to Stay

I'm looking for a town near Pisa to stay for 3 nights after landing in the early evening at the Pisa airport. I'd like someplace somewhat interesting, on public transportation (train or bus is fine) since I won't have a car and would like to explore a bit at a leisurely pace before moving on to Florence. Have looked at Calci, San Giuliano Terme, and Casciana Terme.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Anyone stayed at any of the above places?

I speak Italian, so language is not a problem.

Grazie in anticipo!

I'm faced with the same situation, but decided to stay a night in Pisa.

How about Lucca?

And for that matter, we really enjoyed spending a couple nights in Pisa.

Neopolitan, do you remember the name of the place you stayed?

San Giuliano Terme is close to Pisa and vants the Terme where people have been coming for hundreds of years for the "cure". See www.elegantetruria.com for info about historic travel in the area.

I stayed 3 nights at the Hotel Airone Pisa, between Pisa and San Giuliano Terme.
It was a good choice, very quiet, peaceful, comfortable, and within easy reach of public transportation, and they provided free pick from the Pisa airport.
Thanks for your suggestions!

Well, if not in Pisa, then my favorite city I would recommed is Lucca. So I am seconding Neopolitan's advice as well. I love going to Lucca and have stayed there many times (most recently 9 months ago). Lucca is only 25 mins away from Pisa. You could take either a bus from the airport into Pisa centrale then the train, or a bus directly from Pisa airport into Lucca. The convenience of Lucca is that it is 1 hour 20 mins +/- away from and easily accessible to Firenze also.

Oh, I just realized this was an old post (2 months ago) and that you have come and gone to Italy. Sounds like your choice of stay turned out nicely.
