Town near Grenoble
 

My wife and I are looking for a town near Grenoble (max 50km radius - more south than north) to base ourselves for a week in late July 2011.

We really only need accomodation (anywhere between 50 - 100 euros per night) to put our head down at night but would appreciate some nice eateries very nearby.

Any suggestions please?

Do you want to spend the entire week there??? Would you consider spending the week (Sat to Sat) in a Gite???

Yes we are considering a gite for the week - on first inspection of the gite website, there seemed an overwhelming number to choose from.
However 'She Who Must Be Obeyed' doesn't want us to do any cooking hence the need for local eateries nearby.

Have a look at Uriage, it is a nice spa.

This past July we stayed in a wonderful gite in Cervieres at the foot of the col d'Izoard. About 20 min drive from Briancon. The closest restaurants were in Briancon - and there were few really good ones.

Thankyou for your comments - we have taken StuDudley's advice and booked a gite (actually an apartment) in the old part of Grenoble opposite the old parliament.
Looks like there are plenty of eateries nearby.
