Town and Country Travel Names 4 Bistros in Paris

I saw a Spring issue of Town and Country Travel (which I never knew existed) at Borders today and glanced through it when I saw an article on Paris bistros. The writer mentioned 4 that she liked: Allard, Benoit, Au Lyonnais, and Chez l'Ami Louis.

Since I became a fan of Allard on my last trip, I was pleased to see it there. I've not been to the others, but I know lots of you have.

She listed pretty high prices for dinners, per person w/o wine, eg, $60 at Allard; I know the dollar has fallen since I was there last March, but I was thinking that the prix fixe was around $40.

I was less than wowed by Aux Lyonnais in December. Overpriced and the food was so-so. I've had better, and cheaper in Paris. I did like the decor, and the 'history' of the place.

We ate at Benoit last March - the food
and the setting both were wonderful, but
tres pricey for a bistro.

No, Le Petit Benoit is a very moderate, very traditional bistro - the kind where you get old fashioned bistro cooking like Coq au Vin. We ate there in October and paid about 14 euro per person before wine. The Town and Country selections are all a bit pricey.

Bernoit will be taken over by Ducasse. I hope he doesn't change much.
