Tower Bridge
Anyone know how many stairs from ground level to the walkways of Tower Bridge?
Staggered up them all last night in high heels for Valentine's thingy, would love to know how many there are as they seemed neverending at the time! |
Tower Bridge Exhibition - The Monument
An image of the panoramic view available from the Tower Bridge walkways ... Ever year, thousands of visitors climb the 311 spiral steps to The Monument’s ... http://www.towerbridge.org.uk/TowerB...hemonument.htm |
The Monument is not Tower Bridge, though - not sure why it's on a Tower Bridge website !
|
That's the Monument - a large column that commemorates the great fire.
God knows how many steps there are on the Bridge. |
P.S. But it seems TB itself does have a lift - http://www.towerbridge.org.uk/NR/rdo...litiesGuide.do

It felt like thousands last night!
For some reason we weren't allowed to use the lift going up, but were allowed to use the lift from halfway coming down...god knows why. |
Did you get taken up the Oxo Tower for Valentines?
|
Now, now CW.

I'm confused - why didn't you take the lift up - that is the normal way to go.
The Monument, which is what PalenQ's link refers to, is exhausting to climb and because of the tight spiral (helix for the pedants) you get really quite dizzy too - even worse on the way down. I did it once with one of my sons which was very brave considering I am scared of heights and have mild claustrophobia! |
We didn't go in the lift because we weren't allowed to. It was a special evening opening and EVERYONE had to walk up the stairs. Coming down we were put in the lift halfway.
