Tours of Rome

I know most of you love to plan yourself, but with limited time in Rome I would like to see as much as possible. Do any of you have any thoughts of a structered tour where our could be time be used wisely. I have heard of Context, and I like the site of Dark Rome tours? Anyone ever used them. I have also been told about Angel tours. I want a small amount of people, not a large amount. If you have any recommendations please pass them unto me. All my thanks.

It sounds like you want full day tours. The companies you mention do walking tours of short duration, usually 2 or 3 hours. So if you want to fill several days with tours you will probably have to use several companies since their itineraries vary by day and venue.

I've used Context which I highly recommend but they are expensive. I've also used Enjoy Rome and I like the tour guide for the one tour I did with them.

First decide what you want to see in Rome and then look at several companies to see their offerings. Dark Rome has a full day Ancient Rome tour for E82, which is reasonable, but they allow up to 25 people in the group which is not a small group.

Here are some other site to look at. The alternative is to book a private guide which would give you the most sightseeing in a little time.

Adrienne,

Thanks---I need to carefully look into these. I got a quote on one private your of $204pp. It shows the most in the least amount of time. I agree that is more than likely the best way to see as much as possible. Oddly enough my trusted source tripadvisor rates DR tours the highest. My only concern would be the 25 people. I don't care for that aspect. Thanks for posting for me.

I did a whole series of Context Rome tours a few years back (trip report is on here, if you click my name). I really enjoyed all of the tours and no group was larger than about 12 (that was the Forum/Palatine Hill tour). Yes they are pricy but I had excellent guides and a wonderful time. When I return to Rome, I will take more walks with them.

By far, the best tour in Italy is www.walksofitaly.com. They are extremely knowledgeable and reasonably priced. We did the pristine sistine tour and it was incredible to see the sistine chapel almost empty (before all the crowds arrived).
