Tours in Amsterdam

We will be in Amsterdam next week. We have been told that we should book ahead fro Ann Frank and the Windmills

Has anybody been on good tours for the windmills, canal cruise and did you book ahead for Ann Frank or museum?

Thank You

Maria

Imperative to book Anne Frank House in advance - on official site - to avoid long long wait in line. The windmills at Zannse Schans near Amsterdam are out in the open and I believe no way to book them - just show up but yes a gudied tour will make all those other things. Bok ahead for major museums too to avoid long wait in line - namely Rijksmuseum and van Gogh.

I was in Paris a little over a week ago and took a one day trip by train to Amsterdam. We took a canal cruise from friendshipamsterdam.com. It's an hour cruise, 15 euros. No need to book ahead, we walked up and took the first departure at 11:00am. After that, it leaves every 20 minutes. As much as we wanted to see in a day by foot, the cruise gave us a lovely view of Amsterdam with plenty of info from the staff. Great decision, especially since we just arrived in Amsterdam and the ride was relaxing and very pretty.

It is almost certainly too late for you to book the AF House. Tickets are now ONLY available on line. They release most tickets exactly 2 months in advance and they book up quickly. A few tickets are held back and released on the day. But they book up almost immediately that morning.

More than a few tickets are held back for booking each day -it's 20% but only online site says so first day in Amsterdam try to book for that day online - probably not much a chance but anyway check site for info.

I said they release most of the tickets 2 months to the day in advance and they do. In my world 80% is 'most'. 20% is a 'few' by comparison . . . so nit pick away.

Instead of AF House, consider the Jewish Historical Museum (and do visit the Portugese Synagogue) or the Resistance Museum. Or, make your way to Merwedeplein, where the Frank family lived, and walk the city to the AF House on Prinsengracht, the way the Frank family did when they went into hiding.
