tours: Dingle, Dublin, other...

All the driving talk has made me think that taking a tour while in Dingle might be a nice break from driving...any thoughts. Has anyone taken any of the city tours that should not be missed(visiting Trim, Galway, Doolin, Ennis, Dingle, Kenmare, Kinsale, Cashel, Kilkenny, Eniscorthy, DunLaoghaire, Dublin)? We are planning on doing the Literary Pub Crawl in Dublin...any experiences? Thanks again for all the input! Gotta pack!!

I took the 1916 Rebellion Walking Tour in Dublin a couple weeks ago. It was really very well done and I learned quite a bit about the rebellion itself. It wasn't presented cut and dry history style, but rather with anecdotes and a good amount of black humor which was great. I highly recommend it as a walking tour of some of the historic sights. The web site with more info is at http://indigo.ie/~1916/tourdetails.html

Another good choice in Dublin is the walking tour that leaves from the main gate of Trinity College. Led by a student it is quite interesting and covers the central city quite well. You can just show up, buy your admission from the student guide, and off you go. Worthwhile tour.

I drove for three weeks in Ireland and believe me taking an occasional tour was a relaxing break especially Ring of Kerry from Killarney. We also took a tour of Dingle from the same location but would of enjoyed staying in Dingle longer. City tours are wonderful because you get so much more information and can pick the locations you might want to go back and spend additional time. Enjoy your trip...I can't wait to go again.

a few weeks ago we took the Sciuird Archaelogy tour in Dingle and highly recommend it. Very interesting 2.5 hour tour with knowledgeable guides (friendly local Michael has his degree in Archaeology) of the major sites on the peninsula. I think the cost was about 12E per person.

in Dublin: I think the "hop-on hop-off" bus tour is a great way to sightsee and locate places to visit. Enjoyed the Literary Pub Crawl very much. Also took day tours - in 2001 to Glendalough, and in 2003 to Newgrange. The small group/vehicle tours are nice - and both places would be on my 'must see' list. While in Galway, used day tours to see 1) Cliffs of Moher/Burren and 2) Connemara. Great! The Kilkenny walking Tour was worthwhile. Did not see any sign of tours in Ennis or Cashel in May, but enjoyed both towns very much!
