Touring Rome
 

Looking for recommendations on hop on hop off bus tours/companies to explore the sites in Rome.

I don't find the HOHO type of tours beneficial. Many areas are restricted to traffic so these tours don't always get very close to sites. The historic center of Rome is fairly compact. Which sites are you interested in seeing?

Agree that HoHo does not work well in Rome. There are too many areas not readily accessible to buses as well as some that are pedestrian only.

Some weeks ago me and my family went to Rome. I loved that amazing city really. Getting closer to the culture and its history we decided to organize a tour but we didn't know how and with what company to do it. Luckily, we found a great transfer company that offers transportation throughout Italy and Rome for sure, and different tours. We booked an individual tour provided by a professional tourguide. It was amazingly interesting and exciting. Getting back to the airport we booked the taxi with the same company and it was really a positive experience because the car was clean, big enough for our luggage and the driver was punctual and professional.

I'm not terribly impressed with the descriptions of those tours, especially since I saw a number of factual errors in the descriptions. I also doubt that they use registered guides, since they make no mention of it on their web pages.

Even worse, I don't see any mention of their being registered as a licensed transfer service, nor any mention of insurance. In their FAQ, they state that "According to the Italian traffic laws it is possible to carry children in the backseat of the car without a special child safety seat." This is absolutely false.

All things considered, I wouldn't use them for either transportation or touring.

You really don't need an organized tour to visit Rome. I have relatives and friends who don't know a word of Italian and who had never been to Europe before, but were able to have a great visit in Rome without a professional guide.

I may agree with you their website is not perfect, but all tours are provided by professional guides, and all cars are licensed. If you need a childseat, you get it without any doubt, just only inform about it beforehand. My relatives booked the taxi from their company and my both nephews of different age were in safe because there were two baby seats: infant and toddler.

Did you register on Fodors just to post about this italian company ?

I'm highly suspicious of people coming on a forum and posting links to commercial companies as first post, but even more when they come a second time.

If Bvlenci looked up their site and it says that infants don't need a childseat, that is highly suspicious...

Site suspicious + poster suspicious = run away...

Sallyn - you may find this difficult to believe, but there are some people who only join Fodors in order to advertise their companies. Regulars here get understandably suspicious when new posters pop up and only tell us all about one great company that they encountered on their trip, and not about anything else - where they stayed, what they ate, etc. etc.

It's really nice to know that you are not one of those people and it would be great to read more about your trip - the bad as well as the good.

Unfortunately it may happen. But let's share our experience.
