touring near rome airport

After 10 days in Tuscany, we are taking the train to Rome's airport the day before our flight. Anyone have ideas for hotels there and things to do for half a day there? Also, can we zip into Rome for those few hours easily? Want to drop luggage so we need to get into hotel first.

You will be very close to Ostia Antica, very interesting. We always stay at the Hilton FCO.

I suggest you just stay in Rome and have a taxi take you in the morning to the airport.

If you don't want to do that, but want to "zip into Rome" then you might do best to find a hotel with regular shuttle service into Rome if you are unwilling to pay for a taxi.

If you decide to go to Ostia Scavi it is best to take a taxi from whatever hotel you stay at to Ostia Scavi, and another taxi back. Probably the simplest way to get a return taxi is to walk to the actual town of Ostia Antica and go to a bar and ask them to call a taxi for you.

(If you are more interested in movies than ruins, the legendary Cinecitta film studio has tours, and is near the airport. No doubt they have a website.)

You could also put your luggage in the baggage deposit at Termini station - fool around Rome during the day and then effortlessly put your bags on the Leonardo Express non-stop dedicated airport train to the airport and go to your hotel or wait till the day of your flight - get a hotel near Termini - zillions of them - and go to the airport by train only for your flight. Seems better than staying at a blah airport hotel (hotel may not be blah but location may be).
