touring in europe
We want to take a tour FROM Milan TO Budapest, but the only information I can get is for tours originating from the U.S. Can anyone help? We will be leaving the states the end of February, but are not interested in the tour until early May.

Hi Jo,
You will be able to choose from many TA's and tour companies once you get to Italy. ((I)) |
Just book a "land only" tour.

I'm not sure what you mean.
Do you live in Milan and want to go to Budapest? Do you want a tour in English that includes only Milan and Budapest? Or - do you want to see places in between? Or do you just want to see Budapest - ie get a flight from Milan and a hotel in Budapest? |
Sorry I wasn't clear on my needs. I will be living in the Milan area for 3 months (March 15 thru June 15). During that time I am planning to take several European trips. I am an American who speaks only English, with a smattering of Italian. One of the trips I was hoping to take was from Milan to Budapest. I was trying to find a tour that would include air, hotel, plus some sort of regional our/sightseeing. I normally plan everything myself, but some friends have been telling me about the ease and convenience of following a tour itinerary. I thought it might be a good thing to try when going to a country/countries in which you did not speak even one word of the language. Any suggestions?

A matter of personal preference but complete lack of language skills has never stopped me from traveling on my own.

If you're going only to Budapest and vicinity I really suggest that you do it on your own. I think the chances of finding an english speaking tour just to Budapest from Milan would be quite small.
Also - hardly anybody who isn't Hungarian sepaks it - and you can do perfectly well with only English, sign language and a pocket dictionary. We've been twice and never had any problems. And if you want day trips you can find them from Budapest - any hotel can head you in the right directions. |
Thanks. Appreciate your input.
